What types of technology are accounting and audit firms using?

The use of technology by accounting and audit firms has exploded over the last few years. The Big4 and other large accounting/audit firms have started using 3rd party technology solutions like Alteryx, Tableau, and Power BI to automate certain steps in accounting departments or for audit teams.

These tools can be used to manipulate large data sets and visualize the data to draw conclusions. The use of these 3rd party technology solutions has prompted the large accounting/audit firms to develop their own technology internally to automate and simplify a number of recurring accounting/audit tasks.
